Mario has been around for so long that we’ve collectively desensitized to how weird it is. A bunch of dinosaur-riding, turtle-monster-battling Italian plumbers working hand-in-hand with the monarchy of a high fantasy kingdom full of anthropomorphic everything? Yeah, when you put it like that, it makes you wonder what kind of fever dream it takes to come up with that idea. Not that it matters.
The series has spanned decades and countless console generations to give us one of the broadest spectrums of genre-blending fun we’ll ever see in our lifetimes. So, in honor of everyone’s favorite platformer, we thought we’d take a stroll through the most awesome Mario games on the Switch.

Super Mario Odyssey is as close as a Mario game gets to the Witcher 3 – which is to say… not that close. But it’s a free-to-explore open world packed with adventure, an engaging main questline, and plenty of side content to dive into. In Super Mario Odyssey, players traverse fully three-dimensional environments with Yoda-like acrobatics, collecting special items to unlock new worlds and continue their quest to rescue Princess Peach from the unusually persistent Bowser.
