Summer is almost here. For many of us that means sand, sea, swimming pools and enjoying the sun. Of course, that also means that your hair will be dry, brittle and faded by fall if you don't take care of it in the coming months. Don't let summer wreak havoc on your hair. Use our ten tips to keep it healthy!
When you have frizzy hair
Before we dive into our beauty tips for healthy hair for summer, let's first take a look at why our hair gets so damaged during the season. One of the biggest problems is that we expose our hair to more of the sun's harmful UV rays by spending more time outdoors.
We usually associate these rays with sunburn, but they also dry out our hair, especially if we have treated it chemically. Styling equipment, which many of us use regularly throughout the summer (think all those parties and social events), also damages our hair. The sun's harmful rays amplify that damage.
In addition, the chlorine in swimming pools and the high salt content of seawater also damage the hair. In addition to drying out hair, chlorine water and seawater cause the cuticle of the outer layer of the hair to swell, causing damage. Allowing your wet hair to dry in the sun repeatedly throughout the season will only increase the damage.
