The Rachel 2.0 hairstyle is a modern take on the original Rachel hairstyle, with longer layers and a more relaxed, undone texture. “Framing the face is the secret,” adds Lisa Amato, our consulting expert stylist. This updated version is perfect for those who want lots of bouncy layers and extra volume.
The overall look depends on the styling, but it's quite simple, says Lisa. "I tell clients to apply a mousse or volumizing spray at the roots, on wet hair. One of my favorite products is Mousse Bouffant from Kerastase. It has a flexible hold and anti-frizz." Heat protection is also essential, so follow with Lisa's favorite Thermique Blow Dry from Kerastase – or the one you prefer – spraying it onto mid-points.
Then use a round brush to add volume at the roots and get the bouncy movement in the hair. Place the round brush under the strands and move it forward when styling the layers that frame the face, to give the hair the iconic heart shape. “If clients find it difficult to use round brushes at home, I recommend Velcro rollers or warm rollers on dry hair. And of course the Dyson air wrap is perfect for beautiful, fluttering movements in the ends,” notes Lisa.
