It's not as easy as it should be

When Adobe co-founder John Warnock developed the Portable Document Format (PDF), he wanted to make it easier for people to distribute documents without having to print them. Surprisingly, it turned out to be not very user-friendly.

Not only were the files large, but the format did not support external hyperlinks and could only be viewed with a special PDF viewer. Over time, functional improvements were incorporated into various versions of the PDF file format, making it easier to work with.

However, it is still not as easy to make changes to or edit a PDF document as it is to do with most other text documents. This is because they are not actually meant to be edited.
