Merging cells in Microsoft Excel is a great way to organize data that is spread across columns or rows. If you decide that it doesn't work as expected after you merge cells, we'll show you how to unmerge cells in Excel in several ways.

If you merge cells and immediately realize it was a mistake, you can undo the action using Excel's Undo feature or a keyboard shortcut. These options only work if merging cells was the last action you performed.
