Car keys with remotes are nice to have, but they all stop working. Even if it’s just a dead battery, you can be pretty sure that at some point your car doors will no longer unlock with the remote.
What to do if your key fob doesn't work
While there are a few reasons why a keyless entry remote may stop working, most of them are fairly easy to troubleshoot yourself. The most common problem with these car keys is that the batteries die over time. In that case, replacing the battery should fix the problem. You could also have a problem with the internal contacts, the buttons, or another physical component of the key.
This is extremely basic stuff, and it's not going to apply to a lot of people, but the first step in figuring out what's wrong with a car key remote is to verify that the problem is with the remote. So if you have a second remote, and you haven't done that yet, you'll want to check to see if that one works or not.
If you can lock and unlock your doors with the backup remote, you know for sure that there is a problem with your primary remote.
