Google recently began rolling out Ambient Mode for the Google Assistant to users around the world. First introduced on smart displays, Ambient Mode is designed to greet you with a quick overview of what to expect from your day ahead. The feature appears when your phone is plugged in to charge, meaning it won’t directly impact battery life.

While we've discussed some of the shortcomings, there are some interesting features available when you enable Ambient Mode on Google Assistant. Here are five tips to help you understand why you might want to use Ambient Mode when charging your phone.
If you have enabled the new Ambient Mode in Google Assistant and plug your Android device in to charge, you can summon Google Assistant by tapping the Google Assistant button at the bottom center and using the commands “Hey Google” or “Okay Google.”
Putting the Google Assistant in Ambient Mode brings up a dark Assistant UI that slides in from the bottom as a gradient across the main Ambient Mode screen. This darker Assistant UI resembles the new Google Assistant Dark Mode that rolled out to users in the Google app beta channel on Android 10 and Android 9. You can do everything with the Google Assistant in Ambient Mode just as you would when your phone is unlocked.
