Hide your secrets FOREVER! – Securely erase data
Today, every person is generating data at an unprecedented rate. Worryingly, a large portion of that data is moving to the cloud, taking it out of your hands and into the hands of large corporations. You just have to hope that their policies and security measures are good enough to trust your data to.
But what about data stored locally on your computer or mobile device? If someone gets their hands on your storage media, can they recover information you’ve deleted? In case you weren’t aware, most of the time when you delete information from your hard drive, SD card, or your phone’s internal storage, the data isn’t actually destroyed. Instead, that portion of the drive is simply marked as “free space” so that new data can be written over it.
The problem is that there are several techniques to recover deleted files from free space. Thanks to full disk encryption, this is not as big a problem as it used to be. However, if someone manages to log into your device, the fact that your drive is encrypted means nothing.
