5GE and LTE are just two of the many acronyms used to describe the technology that makes your mobile phone work. Many of us have been hearing about LTE for a few years now, but 5GE is a newer term that is sometimes used in the context of a 5G network.

So, if you could choose a preferred network, which one should you lean towards? Is one faster than the other, or is it just marketing terms that don’t mean much in the real world?

Depending on who you talk to, 5GE and LTE can be considered somewhat synonymous, or even polar opposites. They are both used to describe a standard that dictates things like speed over a cellular network. One is faster and newer than the other.

One way to think about these terms is to think of them in terms of spectrum. 5GE is an improvement beyond what LTE can do. But they’re both still used, depending on where you have cell service and what carrier you’re using.
