Check out these free photo editing apps to make the photos you take with your phone or tablet even better than they already are. You might even love them so much that you won't need online photo editors or image editing software anymore.

I use most of these apps routinely for a variety of reasons, which I describe below. Together, they have a ton of features, so they are useful for pretty much anything: adding text, removing the background, adjusting colors, changing orientation, applying effects, adding a frame, overlaying stickers, removing red-eye, combining photos, retouching a face, and much more.

Whether you’re using iPhone or Android, you’ll be happy to know that almost all of these apps are compatible with your device and are completely free to download and use. Most of them include premium features if you want extras, such as AI-assisted editing.

Google’s Snapseed app is interesting because it has a very clean and simple UI and is even ad-free, but it’s not necessarily the best app if you’re looking for a basic photo editor. I say this because it has a long list of tools — if you like options, however, you’ll love this app. It’s been a favorite of mine for a long time.
