Throughout my academic and professional journeys, one thing has remained my constant ally: Google Docs. Not only is it incredibly convenient to have all of your documents available wherever you are, but the software itself is surprisingly versatile and complex. I’ve never encountered anything I couldn’t do with Google Docs, from signing a contract to seamlessly collaborating with large groups of employees. However, there are other, smaller hacks for the tool that you may not even know about. The business applications are numerous, but let’s focus on what Google Docs can do for students in particular.

10 BEST Google Docs HACKS for Teachers

A large part of schoolwork revolves around writing, from essays to memos and notes. So here are the tricks that will help you the most once you’re all done with a paper:

You can easily change the case of your document by highlighting it and choosing “Format,” then “Text.” At the bottom of the menu, you’ll see “Case Change.” Hovering over it will give you three options: “Lowercase,” “UPPERCASE,” and “Title Case.” If you accidentally type all caps, or need to create a title but don’t want to rewrite what you already have, this is a little-known quick fix that saves a lot of time.

Make taking notes in class a whole lot easier by selecting “Voice Typing” from the “Tools” menu. Once you click on the little microphone icon that appears, whatever your computer microphone picks up will be put into the document. It won’t be perfect, but it will be editable, so you can just have it write down whatever your professor says, and review it later for notes that match your lecture.
