Before the days of cinematic universes and constant cameos, superhero media was like the Wild West, for better or worse. One remnant of this bygone era is the catalog of licensed superhero games, including one that saw a price hike following the recent Deadpool & Wolverine movie.

High Moon Studios' 2013 actioner Deadpool, starring the titular, wisecracking antihero, was one such piece of superhero media freed from the shackles of major studio oversight. It likely would have gone down in history as just another in the seemingly endless stream of irreverent, stylish hack-and-slashes that the seventh generation brought us, if it weren't for the curious story of its licensing.
Less than a year after the game's initial release, Activision's license to publish Marvel games expired and Deadpool was pulled from all digital storefronts. For all intents and purposes, this would have seemed to seal the game's fate as a lost seventh-generation oddity, if it weren't for the fact that the game was remastered for PS4 and Xbox One in 2015 to promote the first Deadpool film.
In another shocking plot twist, the game was quickly taken off the list and has not been seen since. This has made physical copies of the game a special prize among seventh-generation enthusiasts, who are increasingly turning to physical media as digital game stores from that era continue to close.
