Microsoft is reportedly in talks to buy Discord for $10 billion, with many fearing it will be similar to Skype.
Children vs. MALWARE!!
Reports that Discord is considering a $10 billion-plus sale have recently surfaced, leading to a report from Bloomberg suggesting that Microsoft is in talks to acquire the online messaging app. The news has led many to lament the potential acquisition, as Microsoft does not have the best track record when it comes to acquiring new communications services.
“Many current Discord users appear to be concerned that the quality of Discord would decline following an acquisition by Microsoft,” Miklos Zoltan, CEO of Privacy Affairs, told Lifewire via email. “While it is uncertain at this time what Microsoft plans to do with Discord, these fears are not entirely unfounded.”
To fully understand why many are concerned about Discord’s future if Microsoft takes ownership, we have to go back in time to May 2011, when Microsoft closed a deal to acquire Skype for $8.5 billion.
