Microsoft is opening its Windows app store even wider, allowing third-party app stores to integrate with the Microsoft Store. Users will be able to find developers, including those in the Amazon and Epic Games storefronts, in the Microsoft Store in the coming months. But experts warn that growth could bring challenges.
"When you make apps available to third-party marketplaces, you have less control over the content of the store and the app. That means the quality of the apps that users find in the Microsoft Store will ultimately be lower," tech expert Isaac Naor told Lifewire in an email interview.
The new Microsoft Store will launch to the public alongside Windows 11 on October 5, and will be available to Windows 10 users in the coming months. The expansion of the store will hopefully mean that Windows users won’t have to scour the internet for a wide variety of apps.
