How To: Transfer Files Between Local and Remote Machines Using Remote Desktop Connection (RDP)

Windows’ Remote Desktop Connection (RDC) feature lets you view and control remote Windows desktops remotely. Sharing resources between your local and remote PCs can be tricky, but it’s possible to share your local files and folders over a remote desktop session using RDC or other remote desktop tools like TightVNC.

If you use RDC and want to access the files and folders on your PC when you are connected, you will need to configure your RDC installation. You can set this up each time you connect, or alternatively, create a Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) shortcut file to store your settings.

The Remote Desktop Connection tool uses Microsoft's Remote Desktop Protocol to establish a remote desktop session to Windows PCs and servers. It is included with all editions of Windows 10 and Windows Server.
