Is your mobile provider monitoring you?

A new program from Verizon may be collecting information about your browsing history, location, apps and contacts. The company says it’s using the data to understand your interests, but some privacy advocates are sounding alarm bells.

“You should assume that your mobile carrier is capturing at least some of the statistics related to your browsing behavior,” privacy and cybersecurity expert Sam Dawson of ProPrivacy told Lifewire in an email interview.

A recent report from Input notes that the Verizon Custom Experience app is set to access your data by default. The company says on its website that participating in its Custom Experience programs helps it personalize communications with you, giving you more relevant product and service recommendations.
