As online hate speech rises, one company says it may have a solution that doesn't rely on human moderators.
Crack down on AI and online hate speech
A startup called Spectrum Labs is providing platform providers with artificial intelligence technology to detect and shut down toxic exchanges in real time. But experts say the AI monitoring also raises privacy concerns.
“AI monitoring often requires looking at patterns over time, which requires preserving the data,” David Moody, a senior associate at Schellman, a security and privacy compliance assessment firm, told Lifewire in an email interview. “This data may include data that is flagged by law as privacy data (personally identifiable information, or PII).”
Spectrum Labs promises a high-tech solution to the age-old problem of hate speech.
