Jaume Puig, founder and CEO of Biel Glasses, recently won the HIMSS Global Patient Innovator Award for his design of smart glasses that use AI and mixed reality to help people with visual impairments confidently navigate their environment.
“Products like Biel Glasses are an exciting development for users with visual impairments,” Chris Hauk, consumer privacy champion at Pixel Privacy, told Lifewire via email. “As technology advances and headsets become more compact, smart glasses will undoubtedly be a tremendous help for users with visual impairments.”
Puig, an electrical engineer, and his wife Constanza Lucero, a physician, developed the smart glasses for their son Biel, who was diagnosed with low vision, making daily tasks quite challenging for him.
