AI is dangerous, but not for the reasons you think | Sasha Luccioni | TED
Apple has launched Apple Books digital narration, which lets publishers automatically create high-quality audio generated from written text by artificial intelligence (AI). It’s part of a growing movement to outsource many previously human functions, such as art and driving, to computers.
“AI is useful for narration because it can generate speech that is very realistic and lifelike, and it can do it much faster and cheaper than human narrators,” Eldad Postan-Koren, CEO of AI company Winn.ai, told Lifewire in an email interview. “Additionally, AI can be trained to narrate in multiple languages and voices, making it a versatile tool for narration.”
Apple's website describes the new digital storytelling feature as an effort to "make audiobook creation more accessible to everyone" by "drastically reducing the cost and complexity" of producing them for authors and publishers.
