The EWC Apex tournament isn't the only thing fans of the game have to look forward to this August. The biggest change in Apex Legends history is just around the corner: aim assist is finally getting a much-deserved nerf.
NERF Aim Assist in Season 22!
Announced on August 1 via Dexerto alongside the release of Apex's Season 22: Shockwave gameplay trailer drop, it's official that Apex's aim assist will be reduced by 25 percent going forward. This nerf will only affect crossplay lobbies, with aim assist strength being reduced from 0.4 to 0.3. Meanwhile, console lobby aim assist will remain at 0.6 (60 FPS) and 0.4 (120 FPS) strength, and will only be reduced when crossplay is enabled.
While cheaters remain a prevalent problem in Apex Legends, aim assist continues to cause issues for the casual and pro playerbase in clean play, with pros like ImperialHal, Abralelie, Frexs, JMW, and more being forced to switch to controllers due to the gunfight advantage it provides. This much-needed nerf comes in the wake of the recent backlash from the battle pass changes (which Respawn has reneged on).
Aim assist nerfs were briefly announced and speculated in October 2023, as spotted by HYPERMYST on X (formerly known as Twitter). It was originally stated that Respawn Entertainment was looking at aim assist tweaks over the next few years. Well, for the many players who were eagerly awaiting this change, their dreams would come true just 10 months later.
