Amazon and General Motors are teaming up to make OnStar's Guardian service available to Alexa devices soon.
Alexa is coming soon to OnStar emergency services
The new feature adds OnStar emergency services voice commands to compatible Alexa devices like the Echo, Echo Dot, and Echo Show. The goal is to make it as easy as possible for people to get help as quickly as possible when they need it, whether it’s a fire, medical emergency, or other type of crisis.
When enabled, simply saying “Alexa, call for help” will connect you to an OnStar Emergency Advisor. Of course, there are limitations, such as an available internet connection or a working Alexa device, that may be affected in certain types of emergencies. In those cases, it’s best to try calling emergency services directly.
Still, it can make a big difference if you can call for help immediately, without having to run to a phone.
