The POI battle between o7 and Elev8 Gaming created one of the most exciting matches in Apex Legends LAN history, but those matches may soon be a thing of the past. ALGS may be changed forever with the recent implementation of a POI draft system, and many pros aren't happy about it.
when ImperialHal and the DZ guys try out the *NEW* POI Draft system in Scrims for the first time!
After playing their first set of competitive scrim matches using the new snake draft system on May 15, pros shared their thoughts on X (formerly Twitter). The outcome was quite divided, with top pros ImperialHal and Zach Mazer vehemently disagreeing with the new system. Zach (IGL of E8) called it a "rushed process" and noted the huge number of complaints on the ALGS Discord Server, where he's seen "10x more hate than praise in the feedback channels."
The draft system randomizes all 20 teams so everyone can choose where they want to land, leaving the 16th through 20th spots with the POI scraps. No two POIs are the same, some are much better than others. Those at the bottom of the draft will inevitably have to contend with a worse POI, putting them at a disadvantage for the rest of the match.
“Contests are part of the game,” ZachMazer said in his lengthy post about the POI draft system, and many seem to agree with that sentiment. Not only did the contest provide excitement for viewers, but winning the contest put KP on the board and potentially put the team in a good endgame position. The contest also promoted griefing, another strategy to prevent a team that competed against you from advancing to the next round.
