These cards are called Background Enchantments and are unique primarily because they only affect your Commanders instead of anything else on the field. These cards open up a lot of new possibilities and can change the way you play Commander.
Background improvements in MTG Commander Legends: Battle for Baldur's Gate are a new type of Legendary Enchantment that you can equip on your second Commander. This makes them the first spells, outside of legendary creatures, that can be in the command zone.
Like other enchantments, these cards can enhance your game with a wide variety of effects and bonuses. The main difference is that any benefits a background provides are limited to the Commander cards in play.
