A new era of DPS dawns in Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail. The latest expansion introduces three new DPS jobs, but this time around, for the first time since Stormblood launched, there isn’t a single support role in sight.
FINAL FANTASY XIV: DAWNTRAIL – New Job: Viper
Funnily enough, the new jobs in 7.0 also correspond exactly to the roles introduced in 4.0: a melee job, a caster job, and a brand new Limited Job that will be implemented in later patches.
As the first new job to be announced and revealed, Viper was one of the first hints that Dawntrail would be based heavily on FFIX (following Endwalker’s extensive homage to FFIV). Borrowing the signature style of FFIX protagonist Zidane, this new melee job is the main feature job for the Warrior of Light in every trailer.
Viper shares equipment with Ninja, using Scouting armor and Aiming attachments. It has a fast, free-flowing rotation that seems to borrow features from all the other melee classes, including combo flexibility from Monk, debuff management from Reaper, buff management from Samurai, and branching combo paths from Dragoon.
