Pieces Interactive, the developer behind the recent reboot of Alone in the Dark, has been shuttered by parent company Embracer Group following the survival horror game's mixed reception.

Alone in the Dark was the first major commercial release for Swedish development studio Pieces Interactive, and it's also the last. The company's official Twitter/X account released its swan song post on June 17th after months of uncertainty following Alone in the Dark's release.

A report from Embracer Group on its recent financial results in May stated that Alone in the Dark "performed below management expectations." Alone in the Dark has also received a mixed reception from critics. While Dot gave it a 9/10, the average Metacritic score is 66, with many critics citing the game's weak combat, disappointing puzzles, and lack of many original survival horror mechanics as reasons why Alone in the Dark falls short.
