You can now host or join an Amazon Prime Video Watch Party across Amazon FireTV devices.
Time to Ditch the Amazon Firestick – Use These 4 Streaming Devices Instead
XDA Developers first spotted the new compatibility on Amazon's FAQ page for the Watch Party feature on Friday. Amazon notes, however, that FireTV devices will only work with Watch Party in the Prime Video app.
Previously, Prime Video subscribers could use the Watch Party feature using a computer browser, which isn't as convenient for movie nights as watching on a TV screen.
Amazon noted that playback still isn’t supported on mobile devices, but that you can use the Watch Party chat to share the link with your friends and chat about key scenes from whatever you’re watching. It’s also important to note that anyone joining a Watch Party will need to have an Amazon Prime subscription, and will need to separately purchase or rent the movie the Watch Party host chooses if it’s paid content.
