Documents show that Amazon considered developing a device with GPS and Alexa functionality specifically designed for children.
Alexa Smart Home: Kids
Amazon already has Fire tablets designed specifically for kids, but new reports from Bloomberg reveal that the company is close to creating a wearable technology specifically for children. According to documents discovered by Bloomberg, the company was working on a device code-named “Seeker.” It was intended to be a GPS-equipped piece of technology that would be marketed to children ages 4 to 12.
Seeker would have used Amazon’s Alexa voice assistant to connect kids to targeted content, while also allowing parents to somehow communicate directly with their children. The report also notes that Amazon has been working with Disney on an entirely separate wearable, codenamed “Magic Band,” which is expected to arrive later this year.
It is unknown whether the Magic Band will function as a standalone device or if it will be available specifically at Disney theme parks and hotels.
