It’s been a few years since Amazon updated its entry-level Kindle e-reader, but they’ve now announced a major update and the wait appears to have been worth it.
Brand New Amazon Kindle Coming 2024|See Before You Buy
The next-generation Kindle e-reader is packed with improvements over its predecessor, including twice the storage capacity, from 8GB to 16GB. That may not sound like much, but books are small, so this increase opens up the possibility of thousands more.
The 6-inch display is also much improved, with a resolution of 300 ppi (up from 167 ppi), bringing it in line with its more expensive cousin, the Amazon Paperwhite. According to Amazon, this gives the new Kindle "laser-quality" text and images.
No aspect of the new Kindle has gone untouched by Amazon’s engineering team. The battery is larger and more efficient, giving you six weeks of juice on a single charge. There’s now a USB-C port for faster charging, and the update includes an adjustable front light for nighttime reading. And if you buy this refresh, you’ll also get a four-month trial of Kindle Unlimited.
