Leaked screenshots, allegedly of Google’s upcoming Android 12, have surfaced online, suggesting a radically revamped and thoroughly exciting new look for the UI. Along with the design changes come a slew of new features designed to improve privacy and organize communication. While little is certain yet, we’ll cover some of the new upcoming changes that have us excited.

The new UI appears to focus on neutral colors and a more pleasing shape design, with rounded corners and less busy quick tiles. The softer shapes and calming color palette seen in the screenshots, which feature a selection of neutral grays, off-whites, and beiges, give the new UI a friendlier, more relaxing look than previous versions. The new notifications menu is now opaque, though it’s likely that its color, along with the rest of the UI, will be highly customizable via extensive theming controls.

There’s also talk of the possibility that the new UI will allow users to recolor their apps via expanded theming options. This would be an exciting development in the aesthetic controls available to Android users. While dark/light modes are nothing new, it was up to developers how apps actually responded to those system settings.
