Call of Duty players prefer the Black Ops series over any other game in the larger franchise and will only purchase Black Ops/Treyarch games in the future.
BO2 voice announcer trolls in MW2!
Call of Duty has struggled to win the hearts and minds of fans in recent years, particularly with the new Modern Warfare trilogy. The new Modern Warfare 3 is perhaps the worst-received CoD game of all time, with nearly 10,000 “Mostly Negative” reviews on Steam. Several controversial points in the game have led to this point. But the fanbase seems hopeful that Black Ops 6, helmed by Treyarch rather than MW’s Infinity Ward, won’t suffer from the majority of these issues, resulting in a boycott of all non-Treyarch CoD games going forward.
One player on Reddit noted that the only CoD game they've liked since the series' "new era" began with Modern Warfare 2019 is Black Ops: Cold War. Looking again at the Steam reviews, most of the fanbase seems to agree, with Cold War being the only CoD game in recent years to receive generally "very positive" reviews. Modern Warfare 2019 has "mostly positive", Vanguard has "mixed", and Modern Warfare 2 has "overwhelmingly negative".
“Treyarch has always understood what makes a CoD game fun imo. As long as Treyarch keeps making fun CoD games that at least have good spawn logic and good maps, I will keep buying their games. As for Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer games, I will probably stick with free Warzone during those cycles.”
