According to a new leak, development on Final Fantasy 9 Remake is "now very advanced."

This comes from renowned industry leaker Midori, who posted on X on June 4th that the long-awaited reinvention of the 2000 classic "could release before the end of this fiscal year." While this would mean we could see Square Enix showcase the title at next week's Xbox Showcase, Midori suggests keeping "expectations low."

FF9 Remake is reportedly one of the titles that survived Square Enix's restructuring. According to Midori, the title was originally going to be outsourced, but it didn't meet Square's expectations, prompting the publisher to take the project in-house.

In terms of style, however, FF9 Remake isn't on the same level as FF7 Remake or Rebirth, Midori claims. "It's a remake that's a little bit higher than a [Trials of Mana] remake. It's not HD-2D style, but it's not FF7R style either," he said in the X-thread.
