After an absence of nearly five years, Respawn has confirmed that Solos mode is returning to Apex Legends with the launch of the game's next season, Upheaval.
Apex Solos: The BEST game mode to improve!
The mode's return has been confirmed by a note on the next season's splash page: "Stand alone in Solos. It's every Legend for themselves, and all eyes are on you." The image also shows off the next new member of the roster, Alter.
It's currently unclear whether Solos will return as a permanent addition to Apex Legends or if it will make a brief return as a limited-time game mode. Solos was first introduced in the Iron Crown Collection event in August 2019, but only for a short time as a way to gather feedback before its future state was determined.
While the Solos mode of five years ago was hugely popular with players, it wasn’t really in a state where Respawn could justify having it in-game. One glaring issue was the prevalence of players teaming up, which immediately defeated the purpose of a solos mode. Respawn’s stance on Solos after its limited run didn’t inspire much hope that it would ever make a permanent return, as the developers stated that Legends were purposefully designed to complement each other as part of a team. Many players shared this sentiment.
