Pro players and the casual community have often been at odds in Apex Legends. It’s difficult for Respawn to make changes to the game without one group claiming the devs are targeting the other. But Season 21’s Broken Moon update seems to have struck a magical balance.
DID THEY REPAIRE THE BROKEN MOON?
Season 21’s Broken Moon is worlds away from how the map originally launched in Season 15. The center of the map has been completely overhauled to remove the deathtrap that was Promenade, replace it with the massive Quarantine Zone POI, and fill in several new rotations within the central POI. There are also fewer zip rails running into the center of the map, more mini-POIs and structures in rotational paths for players to loot and find cover, more looting in general, new and relocated full-size POIs, and even a new skybox and decorative terrain. And, perhaps most importantly, players of nearly all skill levels will find the new Broken Moon to be a major upgrade.
Over on the Apex subreddit, plenty of players are praising the new Broken Moon, noting how the updates make it feel like "a brand new map" and "fix all the bugs" — a significant number of players are also just glad Promenade is over. The only major issue many players seem to have is how easy it is to get lost with all the new covered walkways around Quarantine Zone, which have large elevation changes and can be difficult to figure out at first.
Importantly, the map update has also been a hit with some of the biggest pro players in the scene, including ImperialHal. “The Broken Moon update is amazing,” the TSM player said, and several other pros agree. Oxygen Esports’ Vein even went so far as to suggest that the ALGS map pool should ditch World’s Edge for the new Broken Moon.
