There are plenty of changes coming to weapons in Apex Legends season 21, but perhaps none are bigger than the care package-released Wingman. He's being replaced by the Devotion, which Respawn Entertainment says is meant to evoke the terrifying state of season four.
New Carepackage R99 is exactly the same as the OG version.. Season 22 Shockwave!
In a pre-season press conference, Respawn lifted the curtain on the balance changes coming in Season 21, highlighted by the Wingman and Devotion swapping places. But there’s more going on with other weapons and attachments, including the demise of the Digital Threat. While the Digital Threat was once almost metas-defining on its own, teaming up with characters like Bangalore who could obscure vision through smoke, the move to remove its attachment from all SMGs and the Wingman weakened the Digi Threat to the point where it no longer made sense to keep it in the loot pool.
"It's become more and more niche in terms of compatible weapons and specific Legend counterplay," game designer John Larson said of the Digi Threat's removal. Once one of the strongest additions to an SMG, the Digi Threat proved to be a great counter to characters who could block vision, like Bangalore and Caustic. "The design is imperfect, and we'd rather evaluate gameplay holistically around [visual] blockers to make this experience better for everyone."
That's bad news for those who still like to shoot through smoke with shotguns or RE-45s, but at the same time, the changes will add more value to characters like Bloodhound, who can still see through smoke.
