Unlike the iPhone and various operating systems, which Apple regularly shows off at its Worldwide Developers Conference in June before launching them in the fall, the company doesn’t have a set “time” to announce and release new AirPods. So we have only reports and rumors.
According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Apple plans to release new versions of both the entry-level AirPods and the over-ear AirPods Max by late this year or early 2025.
We’re expecting two versions of the AirPods 4 (more on that later). The cheaper ones will likely start at the price of the AirPods 3 — $169 — while the more feature-packed earbuds will be a bit more expensive (but still under $200). We’re also expecting a price cut for the AirPods 2 and 3 as Apple sells them.
