Apple may be late to the metaverse party, but experts say its next big product launch could lure more users into virtual reality.
Why Apple's VR Launch at WWDC Matters
The tech giant is reportedly launching a headset that will provide access to virtual reality soon. It follows Meta’s Quest series of VR headsets. The Apple headset is expected to feature a host of new features, including mixed reality, which will allow users to interact with both the real and virtual worlds.
"I think one of the most important features that will be in Apple's headset is the sheer number of cameras that are rumored to be in the device," Grant Anderson, the CEO of AR game development company Mirrorscape, told Lifewire in an email interview. "There are rumors that there will be upwards of 12-15 cameras in there, which will allow it to track eye direction, facial expressions, hand gestures, and even leg movements of the user."
A report from The Information claims to have uncovered new details about the long-awaited wearable gadget. According to anonymous Apple insiders, the ski goggle-shaped device will come with a slew of features, including a dial on the side that will allow users to switch between VR and color views of the real world.
