Have you ever wanted to test your iPhone, Mac, or MacBook to see what’s wrong with it? Apple has made that feature available now, but you’d probably need to know a little more about device repair than the average person to use it.
Apple Diagnostics for Self Service Repair: Troubleshooting Your iPhone or Mac
Today, Apple announced a new Apple Diagnostics for Self-Service Repair tool for anyone who wants to use it. This service offers the same testing capabilities as Authorized Service Providers and Independent Repair Providers, meaning you can learn more about the functionality and performance of components inside your device. This is useful if you're not entirely sure what the problem might be. However, because Apple says this is a "new" tool, it may differ in some ways from the tool available to Authorized Repair Providers.
Apple also warns that anyone using the product "should be experienced in repairing electronic devices" and suggests that "a professional, Apple Authorized Service Provider with certified technicians using genuine Apple parts designed and tested to internationally recognized standards is the safest and most reliable way to get a repair."
The diagnostic tool is currently only available in the US, but Apple said it will be available in Europe next year. The company also announced that it has expanded its self-repair service to 24 additional European countries, expanding the devices that can now be repaired via self-service to include the iPhone 15 lineup, M2 Macs (mini, Pro and Studio), 14- and 16-inch M2 MacBook Pros, and the 15-inch MacBook Air.
