Apple has taken another major step in the transition to USB-C by updating its Magic accessories with the universal connector. The company has equipped its Magic Mouse, Magic Keyboard and Magic Trackpad with USB-C charging ports, though the Magic Mouse’s controversial bottom-charging design remains unchanged.
Apple Finally Replaces Lightning Ports with USB-C in Magical Accessories!
The tech giant's move comes in line with a European Union mandate that requires all small and medium-sized portable electronics to support USB-C charging by December 2024. The regulation is intended to reduce e-waste and save consumers money on unnecessary charger purchases.
While Apple continues to embrace USB-C across its product lineup, there are still a handful of devices that feature the Lightning connector. The current iPhone 14 series, iPhone SE, and the first-generation Apple Pencil retain their Lightning ports.
Additionally, the Magic Keyboard with Numeric Keypad (without Touch ID) will continue to be available with a Lightning connector, though this version may be phased out soon.
