The new MagSafe battery charges AirPods. The iPhone charges the MagSafe battery. The Mac and iPad can charge iPhones. Is Apple creating an ecosystem where everything can charge everything?
“Apple’s multiple charging options give Mac enthusiasts a cohesive way to keep their products charged and use them at the same time,” Daivat Dholakia, director of operations at Force by Mojio, told Lifewire via email. “If you only have one Apple product, the charging integration won’t do you much good. But if you have a Mac, AirPods, an iPhone, and an iPad? You’re set!”
It may be too early to predict that MagSafe will be Apple’s go-to charging method for all devices, but it’s not a bad bet. Since resurrecting the name, Apple adopted it for its magnetic chargers for the iPhone 12, as well as for simple magnetic accessories. It’s also applied to the new power and data connector in the M1 iMac, and it’s rumored to be making a comeback with the next MacBook Pro.
