My original HomePod holds a special place in my heart, even though Siri is a fickle helper at best. On her bad days, Siri doesn’t respond to my HomePod at all, making me feel like I’m being ghosted on a blind date. But when she does hear me, the sound is incredible. In true Apple style, it seems like magic that a small, alien-looking black pod can produce room-filling music that sounds as good as a decent hi-fi system.
HomePod Mini review: Big sound, small package!
That great sound comes with a hefty price tag, though: $299. That's why I'm really looking forward to the HomePod mini, which was just announced for the much more recession-friendly price of $99. The mini, Apple claims, will deliver "great" sound using technology like a new processor and "advanced" software.
It comes in White and Space Gray, pre-orders start on November 6th, with first shipping the week of November 16th.
The original HomePod looks ominous, in a good way. It’s a black cylinder with theatrical glowing lights on top that looks like something a bad guy in a bad action movie might use to cause an explosion.
