More apps than ever are following you across the web, and experts say this surveillance poses a risk to your privacy.
Your phone is STILL tracking you – here's how to stop it!
Many people are uncomfortable with tracking. A recent survey of Apple users found that 96% of US users opted out of app tracking in iOS 14.5. And there’s a reason you should be vigilant about avoiding being tracked.
“App tracking is bad for consumers because it allows companies to follow consumers across the different apps they use, collecting additional data and creating invasive profiles about them,” Ray Walsh, a data privacy expert at ProPrivacy, said in an email interview.
The extent to which apps are tracking us is becoming increasingly clear. After Apple released iOS 14.5 last month, it began enforcing a policy that now requires iPhone, iPad and Apple TV apps to ask users for permission to track. It specifically targets apps that use techniques like IDFA (ID for Advertisers) to track users’ activity across apps for data collection and ad targeting.
