Facebook is planning to launch virtual reality avatars that will reflect users' real social expressions. For some, this may seem a little too real and intrusive.

The tech company has been working on its virtual reality products for a while now, even launching Facebook Reality Labs to bring together researchers, developers and engineers under one roof to focus on the company’s virtual and augmented reality technologies.
One of the lab's focuses is creating Codec Avatars, a project where Facebook uses machine learning to collect and recreate human social expressions to add to avatars in virtual reality.
“People already behave badly in VR. Since the beginning of VR Chat, users have experienced harassment from others, often directed at people with female voices,” Joel Garcia, director of technology at Urban District Realty, told Lifewire in an email interview.
