I recently had a problem where all my restore points in Windows disappeared. When I created a system restore point and restarted the PC, the restore point was gone! I couldn't figure out why this was happening, but after some research I fixed the problem.

The first thing you can try is to turn off System Restore. How does this help? Well, the backups are stored in the System Volume Information folder. If this folder gets corrupted, you will need to delete it. You can do this by turning off System Restore and then turning it back on.
