The real-world success of the brand new League of Legends game modes Arena and Swarm have inspired Riot Games to begin working on even more alternative playlists—including some that “push the boundaries.”
Riot REVEALS how Swarm was DEVELOPED!
League has been around for a long time with its more traditional modes, primarily Summoner’s Rift and Howling Abyss. While that has kept it one of the biggest games in the world, it has seen a new wave of hype within the fandom with the birth of new game modes in recent seasons, including last year’s Arena and now Swarm.
Riot heard the message, and they’re responding. The dev team made a mistake by delaying the game modes. Now they’re going the other way, with plans to build more “experiments for League” that will allow them to go wild with cool designs, interesting expansions, and more modes—all of which can be “safely” tested for more upgrades in the main League game.
“We saw what our ecosystem looks like when we’re not injecting new, innovative experiences,” explained Eduardo Cortejoso, who leads League’s modes team. “Players told us loud and clear that they were missing modes.”
