Is the $400 ASUS ROG Rapture GT AX11000 Gaming Router WORTH IT?
The Asus ROG Rapture AX11000 is a tri-band Wi-Fi 6 router with eight antennas and a massive footprint. It’s billed as a gaming router, and it has some great features for gamers, but hardware like this is also ideal for large homes with lots of devices, streaming media, work, and just about anything else you want to throw at it.
I recently unplugged my trusty Eero and threw in a ROG Rapture AX11000 for a five-day trial by fire. I tested its wired and wireless speeds, its overall performance at various distances, and how well the device performed for general use while getting hammered from all sides by various devices. I also tried as many games as I could at the edges, all to answer this one question: is the ROG Rapture AX11000 worth its price tag and the sheer amount of space it’ll take up in your home?
The Asus ROG Rapture AX11000 is a massive piece of hardware. It weighs nearly 4 pounds, and has a wingspan nearly as long as my arm with its antennas pointed straight ahead. The entire body is more or less square, but the whole thing has been twisted and turned as if the designers were allergic to right angles. Up top, in a grille that bears a fleeting resemblance to alien hieroglyphs, the ROG emblem pulses like an ominous heartbeat.
