Aurora has been all but forgotten in League of Legends since its launch, with the shiny new game mode Swarm dominating player playtime and conversation instead. And, oddly enough, Riot Games must have known it would happen—it’s become a trend with event-plus-champion releases.
Aurora will be my new permaban in League of Legends
Since her arrival in League on July 17, new champion Aurora has struggled to make much of a splash in the game’s longtime fandom. Instead, all focus has been on something else entirely: Swarm, the bold new bullet-heaven game mode that Riot released alongside the champion. Unfortunately for the Vastayan mage, the combo move has pretty much killed all of her hype.
The League fandom was quick to express their shock at how quickly Aurora and her release had been swept under the rug, with some condemning her as too "uninteresting" to make a splash. Most blamed her theme for killing all the excitement, while some also suggested that Riot was missing the point with "more anime nonsense."
That's not to say Aurora hasn't appeared in plenty of Summoner's Rift matches — according to League stats tracker U.GG, she's appeared in 73,462 matches — but considering champion debuts are typically big events, it feels lackluster.
