Tired of listening to jumbled voicemail messages? A new iMessage app lets you quickly transcribe them.
How to Automatically Transcribe Voice Messages in iOS 17
Scusi, from iOS and Mac app developer Jordi Bruin, lets you transcribe any audio message in the Mac’s iMessage app with a simple drag-and-drop. It’s similar to the transcription feature recently added to WhatsApp , but may appeal more to those in the US, where iMessage is much more popular. Taking advantage of the Mac’s built-in accessibility tools, Scusi shows how developers can easily add features to native Mac apps that are nearly impossible to do on the iPhone and iPad (though there is a workaround of sorts if you’re iPhone-only).
"Apple's speech recognition APIs make it super simple to do any kind of speech to text. The hardest part is finding the audio file attached to the voice message, but once you have that, it's really easy to get reliable transcriptions," Scusi developer Jordi Bruin told Lifewire via email.
Voice messages are becoming increasingly popular. If you’ve never had a message box full of messages that you have to listen to to figure out the subject, you’re one of the lucky ones.
