Guatemalan-born director César Diaz, winner of the 2019 Camera d'Or for his film “Our Mothers,” draws on his past to deliver a poignant and heartfelt look at the inner turmoil of an activist in his latest film, “Mexico 86.”

The film, which will be performed on August 10 in the Piazza Grande in Locarno, revolves around the efforts and sacrifices of the revolutionary Maria, played by Academy Award nominee Bérénice Béjo ("The Artist").

French sales are handled by Bac Films, while Bac and Goodfellas will take over international rights. Benelux distribution goes to O'Brother, while Swiss sales are handled by Xenix Film.

The project is produced by Belgium’s Need Productions and France’s Tripode Productions and co-produced by Pimienta, Menuetto, France TV, RTBF, Voo & Be TV, Proximus and Shelter Prod, with production credits for YK Well Enterprise and Yukunkun.
