Grius appears early in Metaphor ReFantazio, and you can teach your accomplice how to use the power of Archetypes to further your mission. Initially, he has three options to choose from, each with advantages and disadvantages.
EARLY GAME GUIDE! Archetypes, Stat Allocation and More – Metaphor ReFantazio
After the protagonist and Strohl awaken to their newfound power, you can choose one of three different Archetypes for Grius: the Warrior, Seeker, and Mage. I chose based on theme, but each choice in Metaphor ReFantazio has its merits.
I used Grius as the Warrior in my first playthrough. I felt it would be thematically the best choice, and I had the protagonist play a Mage instead. This allowed him and Strohl to unleash devastating physical attacks on enemies, while the protagonist exploited weaknesses for more turns. No one used the Seeker, but that wasn't that much of a drawback. I kept that strategy in my second playthrough because it worked well enough.
That said, there is no single answer to this question, as it depends on your party composition and preference. Like other party members, Grius is also not locked into a single Archetype. You can teach him new Archetypes in Akadeimia. His stats change based on your choice of Archetype, with Warrior peaking at 19 Strength, Seeker gaining 17 St and nine Magic, and Mage changing to 16 Ma and only 11 St.
