Regardless of which of the five options you choose, you’ll start the game as a party of four companions. Your choice will also make a difference in your starting resources, which may also influence your decision. If you’re not sure which game mode to choose, check out my guide on choosing adaptive or region-locked.
If you play region-specific, chances are you'll be expanding your party soon. Later in the game, you'll need to expand to 20+ companions, so the first four you choose are less important.
If you plan on using the adaptive option, you can instead opt to go with a very small band, even reducing the number of the first four. This is because the number of fights will scale to be challenging, allowing you to adapt your playstyle. Whichever mode you choose, the rankings below will remain the same.
